Milky Oats + Damiana + Ashwagandha Extract
This blend calms an amped up nervous system caused by stress, overwork, too many loud noises, too much reading of the news.
Side effects included, for me, my body remembering where it put my libido, being able to be around people, and go to work at my busy customer service job without feeling constant overwhelm.
++1oz bottle, alcohol extract of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), fresh Milky Oats (Avena sativa), and Damiana (Turnera diffusa).
Here's what I wrote about this blend on Instagram:
I’m an introvert, and I’ve felt it since before I knew the word. I was late to start talking, and as a kid I was always happier with a book than anything or anyone else. As I grew older, I learned there are so many “types,” and ways to describe oneself. I’m an INFP. I’m vata (but kapha too). I’m a Gemini sun, Gemini rising, and Aquarius moon – all air signs. I’m easily distracted, anxious and super fucking sensitive. It makes sense to me that the situation most calming for me is quiet, outside in nature with my bare feet on the ground.
I’m also a barista at a very busy coffee shop here in Austin, and on most shifts I get to talk to hundreds of people. It took me longer than maybe it should have to realize that this is really stressful on my nervous system… I got to the point where any stimulation beyond that started to feel like overstimulation. I needed hours of quiet to ‘recover’ after busy shifts. I didn’t want to talk to anyone, be touched, or have anything expected of me. I couldn’t find motivation to do anything. I figured out that I need a little help to be a functional human, not to mention a good partner and friend.
“Astra inclient, sed non obligant” – The stars incline us, they do not bind us. I started thinking about what plant allies might be able to work with my specific issues stemming from these frayed nerves I am prone to. I ended up combining #milkyoats, #ashwagandha and #damiana. All three are sometimes called aphrodisiacs, but they are really among the nervine tonics and adaptogens that combat stress, fatigue, anxiety, and low sex drive that is caused by nervous exhaustion. (jim mcdonald has some really great and easy to google information about the energetics of aphrodisiacs..)
I find this combination in tincture form the easiest bit of self care and I take it at least twice daily. After a week or two of consistency, I found that my body remembered what a sex drive is and it’s wonderful. I shared this on my story recently and had such a curious and positive response that I decided to make it available in my shop.
